Members of the Russian community living in Moldova staged a protest in front of the Moldovan Foreign Ministry against the background of the authorities' decision to close the Russian Cultural Center (Russky Dom) in Chisinau. This was reported by Izvestia correspondent on February 15.

The protesters are holding flags of Russia and Moldova and chanting: "Moldova! Russia! Friendship!". The protesters also stretched a banner with a similar slogan.

One of the protesters - Egro Straupe - said that the youth of the republic will continue to come to such actions in support of the Russian Center of Science and Culture.

"I will emphasize this point, because when they try to close, let's say, an embassy of some kind, there are still understandable political motives, but when just a scientific center is closed, what is it done for? It is not clear. Naturally, we will come and support our brothers," he concluded.

On February 13, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry said that it unilaterally terminated the agreement with the Russian Federation on the creation and functioning of cultural centers. It was specified that this decision was due to the fact that the Russian Federation allegedly violates the sovereignty of Moldova. On that day, Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Ozerov was summoned to the Moldovan Foreign Ministry because of local police reports about the downing of two drones, which the republic called allegedly Russian.

The Russian diplomatic mission in Moldova said that the closure of the Russian Center for National Security Studies was a cynical move by the authorities, which demonstrated the indifference of the elites to the interests and needs of the republic's citizens.
