The Moldovan authorities are trying to erase the historical memory associated with Russia, and this is manifested in their attitude towards the monuments of the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This was reported by former president of the republic Vladimir Voronin to Izvestia on February 15.

"They (Moldovan authorities. - Ed.) have long been revolving around everything that is connected with Russia. <...> They treat the monuments of our glorious history, especially the Victory over Nazi Germany, with disregard. <...> They treat everything that is connected with Russia, Russian culture, people in Moldova like this [like this]," Voronin said.

He drew attention to the fact that in all structures of power in Moldova, representatives of the Russian people have been removed from leadership positions. In addition, Kishinev uses various far-fetched pretexts for actions against everything that has to do with the Russian Federation - this is how the decision to close the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC, Russian House) was made.

The former president noted that at the same time the population of the republic does not accept everything that the Moldovan leadership does against the Russian people, its culture and the common history of Moscow and Kishinev, which linked them, in particular, in the times of the USSR and the struggle against fascism. On the contrary, Moldovan citizens call on the authorities to abandon such a policy and emphasize that they have always been and will always be together with the Russian Federation - this is how it has historically turned out.

On February 13, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry said that it unilaterally terminated the intergovernmental agreement with the Russian Federation on the establishment and functioning of cultural centers. The ministry specified that this decision was due to the fact that the Russian Federation allegedly violates the sovereignty of Moldova. On that day, Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Ozerov was summoned to the Moldovan Foreign Ministry because of local police reports about the downing of two drones, which the republic called allegedly Russian.

The Russian diplomatic mission in Moldavia said that the closure of the RCSC was a cynical move by the authorities, which demonstrates the indifference of the elites to the interests and needs of the republic's citizens.

At the same time, a monument to Romanian soldiers who fought on the side of Nazi Germany was unveiled in Moldova on December 24, 2024.
