Lawyer warns of fraudulent schemes with SNILS

Attackers can use SNILS data to take a loan on the victim. This was reported to Lenta.Ru on February 15 by Professor Vadim Vinogradov, dean of the Faculty of Law of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, Professor Vadim Vinogradov.
"SNILS is a key element of financial and social identity. <...> If an attacker gets these and other personal data of a person, for example, a copy of a passport, he can try to issue a loan in his name in a bank," Vinogradov said.
He noted that the bank may refuse to give fraudsters funds, but in this case they can apply for a loan in some microfinance organization: there, most often, less strict rules for checking client documents.
In addition, as the expert noted, there is a second scheme: with the help of SNILS data and additional information about the victim, attackers can get into her account on the portal "Gosuslugi" and replace there, for example, the numbers of cards and accounts on which the citizen receives various payments and tax deductions.
Attackers can also use SNILS to create electronic wallets or accounts in financial institutions. Information from this document allows you to find out the level of income and details about the owner's social activity. The fact is that with the help of SNILS it is possible to find out the size of pension deductions, and on their basis to calculate the size of the salary.
On February 14, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia said that fraudsters are trying to get the money of citizens by influencing their children. For example, they contact minors, posing as employees of "Gosuslugi", "Russian Post" or the Federal Security Service, and convince them that valuables belonging to parents allegedly need to be "declared". Because of this, the ministry recommended that Russians explain to their children that they should not trust strangers who write to them on the Internet or call them on the phone, and that in any alarming situation they should turn to adults.
