In an attempt to lose weight, many people follow strict diets, restricting themselves in food. However, such measures often produce only temporary results, and the weight soon returns. Maria Varenikina, a fitness trainer of Simple Fit, a mobile application for online fitness, told Gazeta.Ru on February 15.

"To lose weight and keep the result, it is not enough to follow a strict diet for a short period of time. A sharp reduction in calories can slow down the metabolism: the body perceives this situation as hunger and begins to save energy to preserve fat reserves. But when returning to a normal diet, weight is gained even faster", - said the trainer.

Varenikina explained that prolonged calorie deficit can lead to the destruction of muscle tissue, which in turn leads to a decrease in muscle mass and even slower metabolism.

In addition, with strict diets in the body increases the level of such a hormone as ghrelin, which is responsible for the feeling of hunger, and it is more difficult for a person to control appetite.

Varenikina emphasized that when losing weight it is important to take into account the individual characteristics of the body, because there is no diet plan that would be equally suitable for all people. According to the specialist, people should take into account their health features, activity level and food preferences.

"For example, a marathon runner or a powerlifter with high daily energy expenditure needs one type of diet, and an office worker with a sedentary lifestyle needs a completely different one," the expert said.

According to her, the psychological aspect of weight loss is also important. During a diet, a person often experiences stress, and constant control over nutrition leads to fatigue and "breakdowns".

In order to achieve sustainable results, you need to approach nutrition consciously and form healthy habits. It is recommended to plan your diet in advance, avoid long breaks between meals, eat slowly, without distracting yourself with gadgets, and pay attention to physical activity, whether it is walking, sports or morning exercise, summarized Varenikina.

February 13, nutritionist Andrei Bobrovsky named the main unpleasant consequences of carbohydrate-free diet. The specialist noted that first of all it is metabolic disorders, deficiency of important substances, increased load on the kidneys and some psychological symptoms.
