Orban predicts Kiev to lose Western support

The West will sooner or later leave Ukraine alone, without support. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said this in an interview with US journalist Tucker Carlson on 14 February.
In his opinion, Kiev's mistake was to believe in the support of Western countries, as this is not what the Europeans have been doing for the last 70 years.
"I think there was a misunderstanding on their part about the true intentions of the West. They thought the West would support them forever <...> If you have a good understanding of the history of Western politics, that's a misconception. That is not what the West has been doing for the last 70 years. So I am sure that sooner or later they will be left alone," he said during the conversation, which is published on the journalist's website.
Orban added that Ukraine will sooner or later be told that the conflict is over, as well as financial and military support, and will be offered a deal. In such a case, the West will tell Kiev that it "would not want to risk a third world war and a direct military conflict with Russia."
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on 13 February that Westerners had betrayed Ukraine when they interfered in its affairs and pitted Ukrainians against Russians. She commented on the reaction of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to the telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US leader Donald Trump.
