Lithuania's prime minister calls Putin-Trump talks a "kick in the ass" to Europe

Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Palutskas has said that talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict will be a "kick in the ass" for Europe. This was reported by Sputnik Lithuania on February 14.

"So I would regard it as a good kick in the ass for Europe, and I hope that Europe will wake up and finally hear <...> that we need to take care of our own issues more seriously," the agency said in a publication in its Telegram channel.

Palutskas noted that the US is making efforts to work with Russia and China to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, leaving European countries on the sidelines. According to him, Europe has not made firm political decisions on defense funding, which is what it deserves.

Earlier, on 12 February, the Russian leader's press secretary, Dmitriy Peskov, said that it was premature to talk about Europe's participation in the negotiations on Ukraine.
