Macron pledged to support Ukraine at peace talks

French President Emmanuel Macron said on February 14 that after a telephone conversation with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired May 20, 2024), he promised to support Kiev in peace talks.
"Only Ukrainians can negotiate a lasting and lasting peace. We will help them," he wrote on the social network X (former Twitter).
Macron also said that the agreement between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin to end the Ukrainian conflict would be great news.
"We Europeans will have to strengthen our collective security and become more self-reliant. France will play its role in accelerating this process. Let's make Europe stronger and more sovereign already now," the French leader concluded.
French politician Florian Phillippeau said that the European Union (EU) has become hysterical after the phone call between Putin and Trump. He said the EU had failed to prolong the conflict, in which they had invested huge amounts of money and resources, as Trump embarked on a diplomatic settlement of the issue in Ukraine by "turning" on the Russian leader.
