German President Steinmeier urged EU leaders not to be "deer in the headlights"


Leaders of European countries should not behave like "deer". German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said this on February 14 during his speech at a security conference in Munich, The Guardian newspaper quotes him as saying.
"Steinmeier urged European leaders 'not to behave like deer caught in the headlights' and to act further than just passively reacting to the latest statements of the USadministration," the publication writes."
He emphasized that Western countries have enough power and influence to overcome crises, but to do so they need to act decisively without succumbing to "chilling fear," Gazeta.Ru specifies.
"We are subjects, not objects in the international order. We must not allow ourselves to be paralyzed by a flood of announcements," Steinmeier said.
The Munich Security Conference takes place on February 14-16.
On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia has not been invited to the Munich Security Conference, and representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry and other bodies will not take part in it.
Also on 14 February, Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov said that there was no news on the topic of the Ukrainian settlement, commenting on US President Donald Trump 's statements about the allegedly upcoming meeting of representatives of Moscow and Washington in Munich.
