US Vice President J.D. Vance did not mention support for Ukraine in his speech at the Munich Security Conference. This was pointed out by former U.S. Ambassador to NATO Ivo Daalder in a conversation with the Politico newspaper on February 14.

"All he (Vance. - Ed.) said is that we believe that at some point there has to be peace, and that's it. The issue of territories and borders, the issue of security guarantees, the issue of sanctions and their future, the issue of support for Ukraine and its future were not mentioned at all," Daalder said.

The former US representative to NATO believes that in this way Vance "missed an opportunity" to explain the position of United States President Donald Trump on negotiations with Russia on Ukraine.

"This is not the kind of language one would expect in the 21st century, and certainly not from the US vice president at the most important security conference in Europe," the former ambassador added.

Vance spoke at the Munich Security Conference on Feb. 4. In his speech, he emphasized the crisis in Europe, which, in his opinion, was provoked by the European countries themselves.

Prior to that, the vice-president told Izvestiya that he was ready to visit Russia for talks on Ukraine.

On February 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Trump. The Russian leader pointed to the need to eliminate the root causes of the crisis and agreed with his American counterpart that a long-term solution can be achieved through peaceful negotiations. In turn, Trump called the conversations held with Russia and Ukraine excellent.

On February 13, the US president announced a meeting of representatives of Russia, the United States and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia next week.
