The jury found the well-known criminal authority Vladimir Kulibaba guilty in the case of double murder, attempted murder and participation in a criminal association and its leadership, reported a correspondent of "Izvestia" on February 13.

The hearing was held in the St. Petersburg City Court. The jury unanimously recognized that Kulibaba deserved no leniency.

Together with him in the dock were also members of the same group, Vladimir Karpinsky and Anatoli Motyl, both found guilty of participation in the organized crime group. Karpinsky was acquitted of double murder and attempted murder, he will remain in custody until the court decision. Motyl was found guilty of all crimes.

Kulibaba was detained in December 2021. He was charged with the murder of a member of the "Mogilov" OCG Igor Savin and police officer Kirill Ugolnikov, attempted murder of ex-assistant Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Dmitry Skvortsov and participation in a criminal association and its leadership.

Prior to that, the criminal mastermind was arrested in November 2010 on charges of murder of the director of the security company "Cascade" Vadim Chechel, committed in 2008. Then Kulibaba managed to avoid punishment: the jury found him not guilty.

Matvey Saulov, senior investigator of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee of Russia for St. Petersburg, told Izvestia that in the 1990s and 2000s "Mogilov's" OCG was one of the largest organized crime groups in the city. The group was headed by Konstantin Yakovlev (Kostya Mogila). After Yakovlev's death in 2003, Kulibaba took over the leadership of the group.

According to Saulov, in the 1990s, the Mogila group had a huge administrative resource, and Kulibaba's name appeared in many operational reports. However, investigators lacked sufficient evidence to bring charges.
