Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, February 14, instructed the Russian Defense Ministry to submit proposals to improve the search for missing members of a special military operation (SMO) by April 1, 2025.

"The Russian Defense Ministry to submit proposals to improve the mechanism of searching for servicemen who went missing while taking part in a special military operation and support for their family members," the list of instructions on the Kremlin's website following the Russian leader's press conference on December 19, 2024 reads.

Head of the Defense Ministry Andrei Belousov has been appointed responsible for the implementation of the order.

Earlier in the day, the head of state instructed the Russian Defense Ministry to submit proposals on the development of the network of military educational institutions, taking into account the future demand for military personnel. The deadline for the fulfillment of the order is June 1.

Prior to that, on January 15, Deputy Defense Minister and Chairman of the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation Anna Tsivileva said that the Foundation and the Military and Social Center of the Russian Defense Ministry had created a unified mechanism for searching for missing servicemen.
