Rada says Ukraine's price for NATO membership is high

Ukraine had to pay a high price for the possibility of joining NATO and sacrifice the lives and well-being of its citizens. This opinion was voiced by the deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada committee on national security and defense and head of the country's permanent delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Yegor Chernev, on 13 February.
"For the sake of this membership we had to go through the pain and suffering of our citizens. And if it was initially unfeasible, the West should not have given us such promises," Semafor portal quoted him as saying.
In addition, Chernev emphasized that Kiev regretted the statements of Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth about the impossibility of joining the alliance, adds "Gazeta.Ru".
On February 13, American leader Donald Trump called the prospect of Ukraine joining NATO inexpedient. Thus, the US president commented on the statement of the country's Defense Minister Pete Hegseth that Ukraine's joining NATO was unlikely.
