The position of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term of office expired on May 20, 2024) is pro-Western and thus hostile to the sovereignty of African countries. Political scientist Alexander Asafov shared this opinion with Izvestia on February 14.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that Zelensky's invitation to speak at the African Union (AU) summit by all means sparked protests from the participants.

"African countries have a lot of contradictions inside, but nevertheless - they understand their positions in the global political picture. And here comes Zelensky, who tries to act in his logic, which does not fit into the African agenda, because it is different," explained the political scientist.

According to him, Zelensky's position is extremely pro-Western and is hostile to the countries of Africa and the African continent as a whole.

"African countries understand everything perfectly well. In addition, with all the recent statements of US President Donald Trump about changing duties and policy in general, the AU makes an unambiguous conclusion that Zelensky does not care about the situation in Africa. He just needs another platform to speak," Asafov summarized.

Last year, on December 28, Russian Ambassador to Mali and Niger Igor Gromyko said that Ukraine had opened a "second front" in Africa because it could not defeat Russia on the battlefield. According to him, Kiev condones illegal armed formations that oppose leaders of the continent's states friendly to Moscow.
