There will be no quick deal to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. This statement was made by Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen on February 14.

"We must make it clear to the Trump team: there can be no quick deal with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin," she told RND.

According to her, "Europeans might understand more what a sustainable and just world is."

Valtonen added that a lasting peace is only possible with a long settlement process, which could take several years. She specified that the negotiations concern not only the Ukrainian side, but also the security of Europe.

The minister also noted US President Donald Trump's desire to establish peace and said that Europe, among others, should contribute and negotiate on behalf of the European community.

The Financial Times reported on February 11 that the Trump-Putin deal would be the worst nightmare for the European Union (EU). According to the publication, the European side also wants to attend the talks. German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock, among others, called not to exclude the EU and Ukraine from the settlement talks. A peaceful solution is possible only if they work together, she added.
