Negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict between Russia and the USA will lead to a deal "that will shock a lot of people". This was stated by US Vice President JD Vance in an interview with the US newspaper The Wall Street Journal on Friday, February 14.

"I think a deal will come out of this that will shock a lot of people," the politician suggested.

As the publication notes, Vance's statement was made ahead of his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term expires in May 2024) and European leaders.

The vice president is scheduled to address the Munich Security Conference on Friday, Gazeta.Ru added.

On February 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. The Russian leader pointed to the need to address the root causes of the crisis and agreed with Trump that a long-term solution can be achieved through peaceful negotiations. In turn, the American president called the conversations held with the Russian Federation and Ukraine excellent.

On February 13, Trump announced a meeting of representatives of Russia, the United States and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia next week. The American leader noted that he believed in Putin's readiness to peacefully resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
