One of the visitors of a Moscow bakery deliberately put mercury in the baked goods of an acquaintance on the grounds of jealousy, as well as pretended to be injured. This was reported on February 14 in the press service of the Moscow Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia.

He was detained. A case under Part 3 of Article 30 ("Preparation for a crime and attempted crime") and Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder") was initiated against a resident of Moscow.

It was found that on January 9, motivated by jealousy, the defendant decided to poison his acquaintance, for which he purchased at least four medical thermometers with mercury and added their contents to a syringe.

"On February eleventh, 2025, the accused, while in a cafe in southwest Moscow, added the contents of a syringe to purchased food with the aim of fatally poisoning an acquaintance. After consuming the food, the victim was taken to a city hospital. The defendant, feigning poisoning, was also taken to a medical institution", - also stated in the message of the IC.

It was specified that during the investigation he put forward contradictory versions, trying to present what happened as an accident.

The defendant pleaded guilty, the IC reported.
