An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 occurred near the coast of the southern Kuril Islands. This was told on February 14 by the head of the seismic station "Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk" Elena Semenova.
"An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 occurred on February 14 at 12:32 (04:32 Moscow time)," she told RIA Novosti.
According to Semenova, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Pacific Ocean 197 km southwest of the uninhabited Kuril island of Simushir. At the same time, the origin was at a depth of 62 kilometers.
Seismologist added that information about the sensitivity of the seismic event was not received, the danger of a tsunami was not announced.
February 13, it became known that in Sochi there was an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4. In the management of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Krasnodar Krai reported that the seismic event was registered at a depth of 10 km, at a distance of 8 km east of the village of Solokhaul in the mountains.
