Two Irkutsk residents convicted of smuggling 111 million rubles worth of timber


Leninsky district court of Irkutsk sentenced the husband and wife to different terms of seven years and six months of general regime colony for smuggling timber worth over 111 million rubles. This was reported by the East Siberian Transport Prosecutor's Office on February 14.
"The court sentenced the woman to seven years six months of imprisonment with serving the sentence in a correctional colony of general regime, the man - to seven years eight months of imprisonment with serving a correctional colony of strict regime," - stated in the message.
It is established that in 2018 the spouses carried out the turnover of illegally harvested timber and exported timber through the customs border of the Eurasian Customs Union (EAEU). The volume of timber amounted to more than 20 thousand cubic meters worth more than 111 million rubles. They were found guilty under Part 3 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Smuggling of strategically important resources").
On November 26, 2024, the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation for the Far Eastern Federal District reported that the court in Primorsky Krai sentenced a resident of Artem to a suspended sentence for smuggling a specially protected species of oak worth more than 167 million rubles. It was established that the head of the company declared more than 12.8 thousand cubic meters of timber of the specially protected Mongolian oak species for export to China, having provided false documents on legal logging.
