Russia does not have the necessary number of scientific fleet required for full-fledged research in the Caspian Sea. This was stated by Pyotr Zavyalov, Deputy Director of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in an interview with Izvestia.

"For fundamental scientific work in the Caspian comes only a small ship "Deneb" of the Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which is based on the Sea of Azov and every year spends a lot of time on the transition through the Volga-Don channel and the Volga," - said the scientist.

According to the specialist, small boats and special vessels are also used in the Caspian Sea, which are engaged in certain applied works, for example, fishery issues. Besides, as Zavyalov added, there is a military hydrography, but it is not enough.

He emphasized that this situation does not meet the requirements of the time - the Caspian needs a large research complex with modern equipment.
