The issue of using U.S. long-range weapons for strikes deep inside Russian territory was not discussed during a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. leader Donald Trump on February 12. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Izvestia on February 13.

Late last year, Donald Trump said that he considered strikes "hundreds of miles deep into Russia" with US missiles unacceptable, emphasizing that "we(the US - Ed.) are just fueling this war and making it worse." These words of the President are quoted by Time magazine.

Earlier, Joe Biden authorized Ukraine to strike Russian territory with the help of American long-range ATACMS missiles. The first such statements appeared in the media on November 17. On November 19, six US-made ATACMS missiles and on November 21, Storm Shadow (UK) and HIMARS (US) systems struck military facilities in Kursk and Bryansk regions.

Vladimir Putin made an address to Russians on November 21, where he announced that the Russian Federation retaliated by striking Ukrainian territory. One of the largest industrial complexes, Yuzhmash, was hit in Dnipropetrovsk. For this purpose they used the newest medium-range missile system "Oreshnik".
