Auto expert named Russians the disadvantages of driving with an empty gas tank

Driving with a minimum amount of fuel in the tank can end up with serious consequences. Pavel Konstantinov, director of the mechanical repair department of Avilon automobile group, told about it in a conversation with "Gazeta.Ru " on February 13.
"In addition to the risk of being without gasoline in the middle of an empty road, you can damage the fuel pump. When the fuel level is low, it works under increased load, which leads to its overheating and wear," the expert emphasized.
Driving with a low fuel level can lead to serious unscheduled car repair costs. This is due to the fact that sediments and contaminants often accumulate at the bottom of the gas tank, which at low fuel level get into the supply system, leading to clogging of filters and deterioration of the motor.
Konstantinov also noted that it is possible to avoid unnecessary expenses and prolong the life of the car by keeping the fuel level above a quarter of the tank and planning the refueling of the car in advance.
Auto expert Igor Serebryakov said on February 7 that, according to a number of studies, due to the use of gasoline with a higher octane number (for example, Ai-98 instead of Ai-92), the increase in power can be about 7%, and fuel consumption can be reduced by about 6%. However, using fuel with a higher octane number than recommended by the manufacturer can cause serious damage to the engine, he warned.
