Former French Prime Minister Jean Castex has been detained by police on suspicion of embezzlement of public funds, forgery of documents and their use. This was reported by the television channel BFMTV on February 13.

Thus, Castex since this morning is in the custody of the gendarmes in the city of Montpellier (Hérault department in the south of France).

The investigation is based on suspicions about the decisions taken by the former prime minister when he was head of the community of the communes of Conflan-Canigo in 2017 in the Eastern Pyrenees.

Castex was France's prime minister from July 2020 to May 2022.

Earlier, on December 18, 2024, Reuters reported that France's Court of Cassation upheld the conviction of former President Nicolas Sarkozy on charges of corruption and influence peddling. At that time, it was specified, among other things, about his wearing an electronic tracking bracelet.
