German media reported a foiled attack on an asylum seeker shelter

The Dresden prosecutor's office and the Saxony Criminal Police Department reported the arrest of a 21-year-old German who was planning to attack a shelter for asylum seekers in the town of Zentfenberg, Brandenburg. This was reported by the Tagesspiegel newspaper on February 13.
According to the special commission for combating right-wing extremism on Wednesday, February 12, the boy purchased explosives to carry out the attack. Investigators later searched the suspect's home and confiscated brass knuckles, knives, strikeball weapons, and various equipment, the publication noted.
As noted by Tagesspiegel, Saxony's Interior Minister Armin Schuster expressed gratitude to the police in Saxony and Brandenburg, saying that it is very important to put pressure on "right-wing extremists."
It is specified that 104 crimes against refugees and asylum seekers were recorded in Brandenburg in the second and third quarter of 2024. The number for the fourth quarter of 2024 has not yet been announced.
In December 2024, it was reported that in the German town of Hirschberg, a Ukrainian refugee suffering from schizophrenia tried to attack police officers with an axe and a knife and was seriously injured.
