The head of the Russian community of Moldova condemned the closure of the cultural center of the Russian Federation

The closure of the Russian House in Moldova causes bewilderment and indignation, people demand to intervene in this process. Ludmila Lashchenova, chairwoman of the board of the cultural center, told Izvestia on February 13.

On February 13, the Foreign Ministry of the republic announced the termination of the agreement with the Russian Federation on the functioning of cultural centers, saying that Moscow was allegedly responsible for the fall of drones on the territory of Moldova. Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov called the accusations baseless and urged Chisinau to wait for the results of the investigation.

"What kind of reaction can we talk about except bewilderment, indignation? Mr. Popshoy (Mihai Popshoy, head of the Moldovan Foreign Ministry. - Ed.), you once promised me that you would strengthen and develop the friendship of the multinational Moldovan people, but what are you doing? <...> In our multinational Chisinau, in our multinational Moldova to close the Russian House, which gives many people the opportunity to comprehend the culture of the multinational Moldovan people?" - Lashchenova said.

She emphasized that people of different nationalities meet in the Russian community and visitors are introduced to the Moldovan culture. The chairwoman of the center's board urged to "respect everything connected with the Russian language."

"We will be indignant. We have the right to do so. <...> And people demand our intervention so that this does not happen. <...> We will protest against the decision," Lashchenova added.

She also said that people are ready to take to the streets on February 15 with the confidence that they "should be heard by those who understand what a human society is."

On the same day, Vasili Bolia, an MP and member of the opposition Victory bloc, said that the Moldovan Foreign Ministry should reconsider the decision to close the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC). According to him, such a decision of the ministry is absurd and short-sighted. The center is an important platform for dialog and preservation of common cultural heritage.
