NATO's strategy should shift to "wartime thinking". This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on February 13 at a press conference following a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels, a video of which was published on the Euronews Youtube channel.

Rutte noted that the alliance countries have already increased defense production. In addition, he said, NATO member states have been producing "more and faster than ever before" in recent years. However, they must "do even more" to ensure their defense capabilities for years to come, the secretary general stressed.

"We need to shift to a wartime mindset. And we need industry to change with us," Rutte concluded.

According to him, "a strong defense industry will strengthen the alliance and create additional jobs in Europe and North America.

Earlier, on January 21, U.S. President Donald Trump said that he would push NATO member states to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP, as well as spend more Washington to support Ukraine.

At the same time, Rutte after a telephone conversation with Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth promised to increase defense spending of the alliance. At the same time, the NATO secretary-general said that European countries would not be able to ensure their own security without Washington's help.
