The Russian Embassy called the decision to close a cultural center in Moldova cynical

The decision to close the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC) in Moldova shows a cynical step of the authorities and the indifference of the elites to the interests and needs of the citizens of the republic. This was reported in the press service of the Russian Embassy in Moldova on February 13.
"Such a cynical step shows the indifference of the current elites to the interests and needs of a large number of Moldovan citizens. Including the young generation, which seeks to learn the Russian language, culture and history in spite of the imposed Russophobia", - stated in the Telegram-channel.
It is also noted that Chisinau continues to "raise the degree" of tension in relations with Russia and destroy traditional ties with the state.
The embassy noted that Russia has not received an official message from the Moldovan authorities about the intention to terminate the agreement. In addition, the embassy urged Chisinau to act strictly in accordance with the norms and established procedure of the agreement.
On the same day, it became known that the Moldovan Foreign Ministry unilaterally terminated the intergovernmental agreement with Russia on the establishment and functioning of cultural centers. It was specified that this measure is allegedly related to the violation of national sovereignty of Moldova by the Russian Federation. The Moldovan Foreign Ministry said in its Telegram channel that Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov had been summoned to the ministry in connection with the alleged downing of two drones reported by the local police.
In turn, MP and member of the opposition bloc "Victory" Vasily Bolya called to reconsider the decision to close the Russian Science Center. According to him, such a decision of the ministry is absurd and short-sighted. The center is an important platform for dialog and preservation of the common cultural heritage, Bolya added.
