Zakharova accused the West of betraying Ukraine after NATO secretary general's words

Westerners betrayed Ukraine when they interfered in its affairs and pitted Ukrainians against Russians. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said this on 13 February, commenting on NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's reaction to the phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US leader Donald Trump.
She called the question and answer regarding whether the phone conversation between the two leaders was a "betrayal of Ukraine" on the part of the West null and void.
"Westerners betrayed Ukraine when they prevented its democratic transit, strengthening its independence, when they interfered in internal affairs, pitted Ukrainians against Russians, mentored Slavs against Slavs, then initiated an anti-constitutional coup and deceived that they were implementing the Minsk agreements, and then provoked a massacre in the region," Zakharova said in a message on her Telegram channel.
Putin held a phone conversation with Trump the previous day, February 12. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the two leaders discussed many topics, including the exchange of Russian and US citizens, the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict and the situation in the Middle East. The leaders shared the view that long-term peace in Ukraine can only be achieved through peaceful negotiations.
Trump, in turn, shared that he is united with Putin in the opinion that Washington and Moscow will be able to benefit greatly from working together. The American leader also said that he plans to meet with the Russian President in Saudi Arabia.
Prior to that, on 11 February, the US president said that as a result of the White House administration's close contacts with Moscow and Kiev over the past week, significant progress had been made in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
