- The SBU explained the imposition of sanctions against Poroshenko as a threat to national security

The imposition of indefinite sanctions against former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko (a member of the association listed by Rosfinmonitoring as involved in extremist activity or terrorism) is due to a threat to national security. This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) on February 13.
"Proposals for the application of sanctions <...> were made in view of existing threats to state security, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as the creation of obstacles to sustainable economic development," the agency's Telegram channel said.
It noted that most of the persons under the sanctions are involved in criminal proceedings and specified that Poroshenko is suspected of high treason and facilitating the activities of a terrorist organization.
The day before, the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) imposed indefinite sanctions against Poroshenko. The next day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term of office expired in May 2024) signed the relevant decree.
Poroshenko called the imposition of sanctions against him a provocation and a crime. He said that the Ukrainian authorities denied him travel to the Munich Security Conference and served 15 subpoenas to the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
Later, on 13 February, supporters of the former Ukrainian president blocked the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada at a session in protest against the sanctions against the politician.
