The Supreme court of the Lugansk People's Republic (LNR) sentenced to 18 years in prison Alexander Degtyarev, who committed an attempt on the former head of the Republic's VMD Igor Kornet. This was reported on February 13 in the press service of the Prosecutor's office of the region.

A 29-year-old man was found guilty under Art. 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("High treason"). According to the Prosecutor's office, he was recruited by an employee of the security service of Ukraine (SBU). He collected information that was directed against the security of Russia and subsequently reported it to the SBU officer.

The information he passed on to the Ukrainian side was used to carry out an explosion at a barbershop in Lugansk in 2023, which killed one person and injured six.

"The court agreed with the opinion of the state prosecutor on the guilt of Alexander Degtyarev and sentenced him to 18 years of imprisonment", - stated in the message of the Department in Telegram-channel.

It is specified that the first three years the man will serve in prison, and the rest of the sentence - in a penal colony of strict regime.

The explosion occurred in May 2023 in 500 m from the House of the Government of the LNR in the center of Lugansk. According to the version of the investigation, a grenade exploded in the beauty salon. As a result of the incident, several people were injured, including Kornet. Subsequently, one of the injured died.
