European Parliament urged to boycott the new government in Georgia


The European Parliament (EP) has adopted a resolution calling not to recognize the current government in Georgia as legitimate and to boycott it. This was reported by the press service of the EP on February 13.
"MEPs call on the international community to join the boycott of the self-proclaimed authorities of Georgia, which they accuse of undermining democracy in the country and suppressing dissent," - stated in the statement.
It is specified that the Parliament opens to recognize the authorities of the ruling party "Georgian Dream" according to the results of elections in the country. It also refused to consider Mikhail Kavelashvili as a legitimate head of state. MPs continue to recognize Salome Zurabishvili as the current leader of Georgia.
As a result of the vote, the resolution on Georgia was supported by 400 votes in favor. Against voted 63 MEPs, 81 - abstained, recalls "Gazeta.Ru".
The presidential election in Georgia was held on December 14, which was won by the candidate from the Georgian Dream party, Mikhail Kavelashvili. After that, Zurabishvili refused to leave her post and threatened to "overthrow the regime".
