US President Donald Trump demanded from the Reuters news agency to return the money that was paid by the government of the States. He stated this on February 13 in the social network Truth Social.

"Reuters received $9 million from the Department of Defense to study 'social misrepresentation on a large scale'. Return the money now!" - he wrote.

The American leader also asked the Politico publication to return the millions to the taxpayers. In addition, Trump also referred to the New York Times newspaper, calling it a "dying newspaper."

Earlier in the day, entrepreneur and head of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Ilon Musk said that the US government paid large sums of money to the Reuters news agency "to mislead" the public. In addition, he called the activities of the publication a major fraud.

On February 5, Musk spoke negatively about the practice of funding media outlets with public money, calling it a huge waste of taxpayers' money. He noted that this includes payment for subscriptions to Associated Press news materials, for which the U.S. government annually allocates millions of dollars.
