On February 24 at the State Kremlin Palace the Kremlin Ballet Theatre will show Adolphe Adam's "The Corsair".

The plot of the performance resembles an adventure novel. There are chases, kidnappings, fights, an insidious plot and the intriguing world of the East with its colorful bazaar, the luxury of the harem and the specifics of relationships between characters. And, of course, the love of the main characters.

The Kremlin Ballet Theater presents "The Corsair" staged by the outstanding choreographer, People's Artist of the USSR Yuri Grigorovich, who performed this version especially for this company. The choreographer has retained the most famous dance scenes and numbers staged by his predecessors, including Marius Petipa's famous "Lively Garden". Nikolai Sharonov was the production designer who embodied in colorful sets and costumes this fantasy story full of adventures and dance compositions.

In the State Kremlin Palace the ballet "Corsair" is accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of Radio "Orpheus", artistic director and chief conductor - Honored Artist of Russia Sergey Kondrashev.

The ballet "The Corsair" by A. Adan was first performed in Paris, at the Academy of Music and Dance, in 1856. Two years later the performance was seen by the public in St. Petersburg, staged by Jules Perrault, and five years later, in 1863, Marius Petipa presented his version of the romantic story, based on J. Byron's poem of the same name, at the Mariinsky Theatre. One of his undoubted choreographic discoveries was The Lively Garden to music by Léo Delibes - the action unfolds in the palace of Seyid Pasha, where the beautiful Medora has been taken against her will and will soon be rescued by the corsair Conrad, who is in love with her. In general, the music for "The Corsair" is a separate interesting topic. As different editions of this ballet were being created, additional musical fragments appeared that were required by this or that director - in accordance with his creative vision.

Thus melodies by Leo Delibes, Ricardo Drigo, Cesar Puni and a number of other composers sounded in the performance. A ballet in three acts with a prologue and epilogue

The performance has two intermissions.
