Russia will introduce call labeling to protect against fraudsters

The Russian Government is introducing mandatory call identification as part of amendments to legislation to protect citizens from telephone and Internet fraudsters. This was announced by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a Cabinet meeting on February 13.
"Mandatory marking of calls is introduced so that it will be visible from whom they come - from organizations or from an international virtual number. The information will be displayed on the phone screen," he announced.
Prime Minister noted that a comprehensive package of measures had been prepared, the implementation of which is scheduled for the near future.
Earlier in the day, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications Sergei Boyarsky said that Russia may introduce a ban on receiving SMS messages during a call to counteract phone fraud. He emphasized that fraudsters want to get the digits from the password code that is sent to a person via SMS.
