Hypertension (arterial hypertension) is one of the most common diseases of the cardiovascular system. Without proper control and a competent approach to treatment, it can lead to serious health consequences. On February 14, Anastasia Fomicheva, cardiologist at SM-Clinica, told Izvestia about the most common mistakes made by patients with hypertension.

She noted that the main mistake of patients with this disease is ignoring doctor's recommendations. In particular, patients often neglect the rules of the DASH diet, designed specifically to control blood pressure, and abuse salty foods.

"Taking blood pressure medication irregularly, only when it rises, is a common mistake! Hypotensive drugs should be used every day, strictly following the prescribed regimen prescribed by your doctor, even if your blood pressure seems normal in the morning. Scheduled therapy should be carried out on a regular basis", - emphasized the cardiologist.

She also drew attention to the fact that you should not independently reduce the dosage of drugs, as they can cease to have the necessary effect.

"If the target pressure values can not be achieved promptly, do not rush to abandon treatment. Medications need time to accumulate in the body. On average, you need to wait at least two to three weeks," Fomicheva added.

In addition, she said that aspirin is not suitable for primary prevention in patients suffering only from hypertension.

"Short-acting drugs that sharply reduce blood pressure should not be used as a permanent therapy. They are not among the first-line drugs. Other groups of drugs are used for daily intake," the cardiologist explained.

Earlier, on February 9, Ekaterina Demyanovskaya, an expert physician at the Hemotest laboratory, told Izvestia that arterial hypertension is a dangerous condition. It can lead to heart attack or stroke, provoke pulmonary edema and heart failure.
