On Monday, February 17, Russian schools and colleges will host another lesson from the "Talking about Important Things" series. The class will be held within the framework of the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland and will be devoted to such a topic as service to the Fatherland. "Izvestia" tells what will discuss with students in different classes.

"Conversations about important" on February 17 - the theme of the lesson

The new lesson will be held on the eve of the 280th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Russian naval commander Fyodor Ushakov. The significant date is celebrated on February 24. And the day before that Russia will celebrate the Day of Defender of the Fatherland. It is about loyal service to the Fatherland and responsibility for the fate of the Motherland will talk to students at the lesson "What it means to serve the Fatherland".

The central theme of the lesson will be the personality and military victories Ushakov. The most striking military victories of the naval commander belong to the Russo-Turkish war of 1787-1791. Under Ushakov's command, the Black Sea Fleet inflicted a crushing defeat on the Turkish squadron in the Kerch Strait and at Cape Tendra, which forced Turkey to go to the conclusion of favorable for Russia Yassky peace.

In total Ushakov conducted 43 sea battles and did not suffer a single defeat, going down in history as an invincible admiral. And the principles of naval combat are still based on the tactics developed by him in the XVIII century. Since 2000 Fyodor Ushkov is honored as the patron saint of the Russian Navy.

The class will also talk about other heroes of the past and present, who by their example showed that it is possible to serve the Fatherland not only on the battlefield, but also in spiritual, peaceful life. Yevgeny Poddubny, a war correspondent and Hero of Russia, will join the conversation in the format of a video interview.

The session will last 30 minutes. Methodological materials and recommendations are published on the project website.

"Talking about important things" on February 17 - lesson program

The first-second grades will watch and discuss the video "The life and exploits of Admiral Ushakov", understand the words "naval commander", "admiral", "squadron", and answer the main question of the lesson: what does it mean to serve the Fatherland?

In the third and fourth grades pupils will be offered to discuss the meaning of the phrase "I serve Russia!", which is uttered by the military in response to gratitude, encouragement or award. Then they will be told about St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, a man who served Russia not with weapons, but with the power of his word. The year 2025, rich in round dates, will mark 100 years since his death.

As students continue, they will answer the question: Why do we continue to celebrate dates associated with the lives of great men who lived long before us, and why is it so important to keep their memory alive?

In fifth-seventh grades, the lesson will be supplemented by an interactive task "Qualities of the Defender of the Fatherland". And in eighth and ninth grades pupils will be asked to create a composite image of a man who serves his Fatherland on the basis of watched clips and presentations.

In grades 10-11 they will focus on such concepts as honor and dignity, and will also consider what these qualities mean in modern society and why they are important for every citizen.

The conversation about service to the Fatherland will also take place in the institutions of secondary vocational education. College students in particular will discuss whether honest and conscientious labor in the chosen profession can be considered service to the Fatherland.
