According to the newspaper Bild, the accident occurred in the central district of Munich. About 10:30 local time (12:30 Moscow time) gray Mini Cooper at high speed crashed into the participants of the strike organized by the trade union Verdi. The demonstrators were demanding higher wages, increased bonuses and additional days off for municipal employees.

At least 20 people were injured in the accident. TV channel Sky News with reference to the police in Munich specifies that at least two people were seriously injured and are in critical condition. Emergency services are working at the site, a rescue helicopter was called.

According to the Mayor of Munich Dieter Reiter, among the injured were children.

"The police chief has just informed me that a car has crashed into a group of people and unfortunately many people have been injured, including children. I am deeply shaken. My thoughts are with the injured," Bild quoted him as saying.

According to the publication, the Mini Cooper was driven by a 24-year-old Afghan man, he has already been detained. At the same time during the operation, the law enforcers had to use firearms. Now the police will have to determine whether the hit-and-run was intentional or the driver simply mistook the gas and brake.
