Entrepreneur and head of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Ilon Musk said that the US government paid large sums of money to the Reuters news agency "to mislead" the public. On February 13, he said on his social networking page X (formerly Twitter).

"The U.S. government paid millions of dollars for "large-scale misleading of the public." This is literally what the contract says," Musk wrote in response to the publication with the data of the alleged payment to the agency.

In addition, he called the activities of the publication a major fraud.

On February 5, Musk spoke negatively about the practice of funding media outlets with public funds, calling it a huge waste of taxpayers' money. He noted that this includes paying for subscriptions to Associated Press news materials, for which the U.S. government annually allocates millions of dollars.
