There were 170 road accidents in Russia over the past day

Over the past 24 hours, 170 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 17 people were killed and 220 injured. 12 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to "Izvestia" on Thursday, February 13, in the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 61 accidents involving pedestrians, five people were killed, another 60 were injured of varying severity. Among the victims are 11 child pedestrians, seven of whom were injured at crosswalks. Of the total number of accidents with pedestrians, 31 occurred at crosswalks and 30 - outside their zone of action. With participation of minors 19 accidents were registered, in them 20 young road users were injured, including 8 passengers. There were no children killed.

On Wednesday, 18 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which six people were killed, another 38 road users required medical assistance. The cause of 11 accidents with buses were violations of traffic rules committed by drivers of other vehicles.

Thus, in the Leningrad region at 120 km of the federal highway R-21 "Kola" the driver of a truck at the exit from the gas station did not give advantage in traffic and collided with an oncoming bus with 17 passengers in the cabin. As a result of the accident the driver and one passenger of the bus died, 13 passengers were hospitalized with injuries.

In Krasnoyarsk, the driver of a passenger car collided with a city shuttle bus carrying 37 passengers, which was traveling in the opposite direction. After the collision the bus went off the road and crashed into a city lighting mast. Nine passengers of the bus were injured in the accident. After medical treatment they were sent for outpatient treatment.

"We urge motorists to strictly observe traffic rules and driving discipline. In order to ensure safety, drivers should refuse risky manner of driving, especially in winter weather, neglecting the established speed limit and making dangerous maneuvers, which often create prerequisites for the commission of accidents with serious consequences. Remember that not only your life and health, but also the life and health of other road users, including their most vulnerable category - children - depend on your skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior behind the wheel," - said "Izvestia" deputy head of the department of road safety propaganda and prevention of children's road traffic injuries of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, police colonel Anton Belan.

In addition, as the department said, in Krasnoyarsk region due to the improvement of weather conditions, the temporary restriction of bus and truck traffic on a 25-kilometer section of the federal highway R-255 "Siberia" (Novosibirsk - Kemerovo - Krasnoyarsk - Irkutsk) from 1021 km to 1046 km, which lasted for several hours, has been lifted.

The State Automobile Inspectorate recommended that when planning long-distance trips in winter, to closely follow the weather forecast, as well as media reports from places of road closures or traffic restrictions. In case of inclement weather, strong wind, snowfall, snowstorms, if possible, should refrain from using personal vehicles until the weather conditions improve, and in urban areas to use the services of public transportation.

Earlier in the day it was reported that in Moscow there will be a preventive inspection of drivers of carsharing cars and cabs. The raid will be held from February 14 to 16. In the traffic police noted that the event is held in order to improve road safety and prevention of offenses.
