Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term of office expired on May 20, 2024) is trying to divert attention from the telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump by any means. This was stated by Australian political scientist Mark Lowe to Izvestia on February 13.

This is how he commented on the disruption of the rotation of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) specialists at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) by the Ukrainian army on February 12.

"Perhaps it is for distraction <...>. To distract from what just happened with Trump and with President Putin: their conversation. A distraction was needed," Lowe clarified.

According to him, the Ukrainian regime "does not care" what methods to use to save themselves, even "if it requires blowing up a nuclear reactor."

The expert also called it obvious that the IAEA does not want accusations against Ukraine or the head of the Kiev regime. At the same time, Lowe clarified that the agency is "happy to accuse Russia."

"This is a double standard. It would be nice if the West would wake up and say something, but I don't think it will do it, unfortunately," Lowe noted.

The AFU continues to disrupt the rotation of IAEA experts while the Russian side is trying to keep the specialists safe, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said. The governor of Zaporizhzhya Region, Yevhen Balitskyy, described the repeated attacks by the Ukrainian army on the territories closest to the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, including Enerhodar, as a provocation.
