Medvedev calls Putin-Trump conversation important for the world

The telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump is important for the world, which was "balancing on the brink of apocalypse". This statement was made by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev on February 13.

"The conversation <...> has finally taken place. This is very important in itself," he wrote in the VKontakte social network.

According to Medvedev, the world was balancing on the brink of apocalypse because of the curtailed relations between Russia and the United States, "Gazeta.Ru" specifies.

The deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation specified that the situation in the world turned out to be such because "the United States appointed itself the main country of our planet."

In an hour and a half, they also discussed prisoner exchanges, the situation in the Middle East and the Iran nuclear deal

The conversation between Putin and Trump took place in the evening of February 12. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in 1.5 hours the presidents discussed many topics, including the exchange of Russian and US citizens, the settlement of the Ukrainian and the situation in the Middle East. The leaders shared the view that long-term peace in Ukraine can only be achieved through peaceful negotiations.

Trump, in turn, noted that he is united with the Russian president in the opinion that Washington and Moscow will be able to gain great benefit from working together. He called the conversation productive and expressed hope for a successful dialog on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
