Austrian political analyst predicts world changes after possible meeting between Putin and Trump

The possible meeting of Russian and US presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will seriously affect the situation in the world. This was stated by Austrian geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel to Izvestia on February 13.

The day before, on February 12, the two leaders had a phone conversation during which Putin invited Trump to Moscow.

"This phone conversation was a landmark event. If the meeting between Putin and Trump that was mentioned takes place, it could lead to serious changes on the world stage. We can say that we are at a historic moment after this phone conversation," Poppel said.

The analyst emphasized that a solution to the Ukrainian crisis can only be found between Moscow and Washington, as "America played a role in the beginning of this conflict by supporting the Maidan."

"The new American president has a more critical attitude to this. He sees America's role differently, rather than playing the role of 'world policeman' and interfering in affairs around the world," Poppel added.

According to the political scientist, Trump intends to focus on the country's internal problems: the social and economic situation, restoring peace within the state, establishing relations between different political groups, as well as developing the national economy.

"We can say that with the arrival of Trump a new era can begin, and the Ukrainian conflict in this context also plays a role," the expert concluded.
