The Russian Investigative Committee (IC) has prosecuted 26 people from 12 countries for three weeks on charges of participation in hostilities on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This was reported to the chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, on February 13.
The head of the Investigative Committee held an operational meeting of the headquarters for the investigation of crimes committed by Ukrainian formations against civilians and military personnel of the Russian Armed Forces in Kherson Region. He heard reports on the work on the investigation of crimes of Ukrainian militants, as well as on the work of the investigative departments for the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
"Over the past three weeks, 26 more natives of 12 states, including the UK, Colombia, Poland, Sweden and Argentina, have been brought to criminal responsibility. The specified persons are declared wanted. The courts are considering a number of criminal cases. Recently, on the basis of evidence collected by the IC, a Georgian mercenary Nikolos Berianidze, who attacked the lives of Russian servicemen, was sentenced to life imprisonment," the agency said.
In addition, the Investigative Committee of Russia continues to document the criminal acts of members of the regiment "Azov" (recognized as terrorist, banned in Russia), as well as assesses the actions of officials involved in hostilities in Donbass since 2014.
Earlier, on January 27, the press service of the prosecutor's office of the DNR reported that the Supreme Court of the republic sentenced 40-year-old citizen of Georgia Berianidze to life imprisonment for the murder of three Russian soldiers. He was found guilty under part 3 of Article 359 and Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Mercenarism, attempt on the life of a serviceman for the purpose of obstructing the legitimate activities of the said person to ensure public security").
