UN mission peacekeeper from Tunisia killed in attack in CAR


A UN peacekeeper from Tunisia has died in the Central African Republic (CAR). This was reported on the website of the United Nations (UN) on February 12.
According to the organization, on the night of February 11, the peacekeeper was on patrol near the village of Zobassinda in the Bamingui-Bangoran prefecture to protect civilians when he was attacked by an unidentified man with a gun.
"The [UN Secretary-General António Guterres] strongly condemned the killing of a Tunisian peacekeeper serving in the UN mission in the Central African Republic," the organization said in a statement.
The UN expressed condolences to the relatives of the deceased, and also recalled that an attack on its peacekeepers, according to international law, can be considered a war crime. The Secretary-General calls on the CAR authorities to make every effort to identify the perpetrators of this tragedy so that they can be promptly brought to justice.
Earlier, on January 31, Russia sent a shipment of 29.4 thousand tons of diesel fuel to the CAR as humanitarian aid. It is noted that on January 29 unloading of fuel in the port of the Republic of Cameroon. Its further transportation to the capital of the CAR will be carried out by the forces of the receiving party.
