Tigran Meloyan, an analyst at the Center for Mediterranean Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, told Izvestia that the phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. leader Donald Trump showed that many international issues cannot be resolved without a dialog with Moscow.

"The call puts a fat point on Russia's so-called international isolation. Without direct dialog with Moscow, as it turned out, some or other international issues, especially in the security sphere, cannot be solved," the expert stressed.

According to Meloyan, the leaders' phone conversation was the beginning of a whole series of contacts.

"A rather long and thorny path is planned, during which there will be many more contacts, but it is important that the sides are ready to overcome it through dialog," he specified.
