The 122-millimeter 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery unit of the separate Guards motorized rifle brigade of the 51st Guards All-Russian Army of the Southern Military District struck a Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) stronghold in the Dzerzhynsk direction of the Special Military Operation (SMO) zone. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on February 13.

Artillerymen in cooperation with reconnaissance units destroy armored vehicles and enemy manpower on a daily basis. Thus, the scouts detected enemy movement in one of the frontline areas. The coordinates of the target were promptly transferred to the Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer to inflict a fire attack. The enemy was destroyed, which allowed our assault units to improve the situation on the line of contact.

"We destroy both the enemy's manpower and the enemy's wheeled, tracked vehicles. The vehicle stands camouflaged. The situation here in our direction is steadily tense," said the commander of the artillery battery with the call sign Mityai.

The main task of the artillerymen is to provide fire support to the actions of Russian assault units, as well as dismantle the AFU strongholds.

"We work hard, tightly. We do not let the enemy pass. <...> Now they are in defense, because now our troops are pressing, advancing. Now they are shelling civilians, the center of Gorlovka, the outskirts. Usually it's cluster bombs. They hit civilians, they hit cars, FPV drones come. There are even, personally seen when the FPV-drone is already running out of battery and he just chooses a target - civilian", - said the commander of the gun with the call sign Raja.

Earlier, on February 12, the BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launcher system (MLRS) of the Center group of troops struck an AFU stronghold in the Red Army direction of the North Caucasus Military District. The strike was carried out with 122-millimetre fragmentation-fugitive shells against enemy targets in hiding.

The special operation to defend Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
