Fraudsters have modernized a scheme called Fake Date to extort money from victims in a big way. With the development of artificial intelligence technologies, this scheme has reached a new level and received several new turns at once, experts told Izvestia.

If earlier attackers used generative models to create plausible images, video and voice, now with the help of AI they create a generated character for a video call that will blink, move lips and conduct a dialog like a live person, said Tatiana Deshkina, head of the VisionLabs product portfolio (a structure of MTS).

"We are already aware of ten such cases with damage of more than 1 million rubles each. With the help of AI, attackers can analyze information about the victim, including data from social networks, to create the most plausible scenario of deception," the expert explained.

According to her, in 2025 this practice will become even more sophisticated, as with the help of neural networks it is possible to quickly scan hundreds of thousands of profiles and find vulnerable users, for example, single people looking for love.

Attackers have also started resorting to specialized AI assistants that quickly create forbidden content in the "18+" category. This is cheaper and faster than using real people, as it allows you to do without intermediaries and outsiders. We can say that this is dipfakes with an emphasis on the explicit component, added GG Tech IT specialist Sergey Pomortsev.
