By the 80th anniversary of the victory, the FSB Public Relations Center (PRC) has published documents on the activities of the security agencies in organizing the defense of Moscow during the Great Patriotic War. The agency on February 13 published digital copies of archival documents from the FSB funds.

"The organs of the NKGB (People's Commissariat for State Security. - Ed.), each individual Chekist is obliged to make every effort for the merciless massacre of the hordes of attacking German fascism", - stated in the directive № 127 of the USSR State Security Commissar of July 1, 1941.

From the first days of the war, the Soviet security services took an active part in the fight against the Nazi invaders. They faced the tasks of protecting important state and industrial facilities, protection of the highest officials of the country, neutralization of subversive work of the enemy in the Soviet rear, organization of armed resistance and many others.

The NKVD of the USSR created the underground, which included 20 independent groups. In addition, small autonomous groups were created for underground work from among NKVD officers and patriots who volunteered to perform dangerous tasks behind enemy lines.

Under the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the USSR was organized headquarters for the protection of the Moscow defense zone. In its subordination were fighter battalions, acting in close cooperation with the NKVD Department of the Moscow region.

In total, the Central Office of the FSB made public eight documents.

Earlier, on February 4, the FSB Central Office published declassified archival documents dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Yalta Conference of the leaders of the anti-Hitler coalition countries: the Soviet Union, the United States and Great Britain.
