Pistorius said of "signals" from Kiev about readiness for territorial concessions

There are signals from Kiev that it is ready to make territorial concessions in order to achieve a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This statement was made by German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius on 12 February.
However, he said, there are doubts that a comprehensive plan for peace or truce will be presented at the Munich Security Conference to be held this week.
"Now, a few days before the Munich Security Conference, which unofficially starts Thursday night with some events, there is no such glimmer of hope. But, of course, I am convinced that there will be movement in all this this year," RIA Novosti quoted Pistorius as saying.
In addition, the head of the FRG defense Ministry commented on the information that appeared in the US media, including with reference to members of the administration of US President Donald Trump, about the fact that without giving up territories Ukraine will not eventually manage to conclude a truce.
"No one has the right to decide behind Ukraine's back, this applies to the U.S. administration as well, on what terms from Ukraine's side such a ceasefire should take place. But on the other hand, there are indeed signals coming from Ukraine that there is some kind of willingness to do that under certain conditions," Pistorius said.
Earlier in the day, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said that returning Ukraine to its 2014 borders was an unrealistic goal. Back in early January, it was reported that Trump would have to agree to large territorial concessions from Ukraine for the sake of ending the Ukrainian conflict.
Later, on February 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term of office expired on May 20, 2024) said that he expects the start of negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict with the participation of Moscow, Kiev, Washington and Brussels. For his part, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian Federation viewed the Ukrainian leader's words as empty.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
