Iraq and the Trump administration are dialoguing on the withdrawal of coalition troops

The Iraqi authorities are in dialog with the administration of US President Donald Trump at the technical level, discussing the details of the withdrawal of the international coalition forces. A source told Izvestia.

Developments in Syria force Baghdad to change its mind

"Dialogue (with the Trump administration. - Ed.) on the withdrawal of coalition forces is underway, but these are technical discussions, and they concern military issues and measures related to security," - said the interlocutor of the publication.

In September 2024, the State Department reported that the international coalition led by the United States decided to complete the military mission in Iraq. The parties have agreed on the schedule and stages of this process.

The withdrawal of troops should take place no later than September 2026. At the same time, a transition to a bilateral security partnership between the U.S. and Iraq is envisioned.
