Trudeau ruled out the idea of Canada becoming part of the U.S.

Canada will never become the 51st state of the United States. This was stated by the Prime Minister of the country Justin Trudeau on February 12.
"I want to be very clear: Canada will never be the 51st state. It will never happen," he noted, responding to a question from journalists about US President Donald Trump's remarks.
At the same time, he added that Ottawa takes such statements by Trump with all seriousness.
Earlier, on February 2, the American leader said that if Ottawa wants to achieve lower taxes and not pay customs duties, it should join the United States as the 51st state. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, in turn, commenting on this, expressed the opinion that the US President's threat to make Canada the 51st state is real.
Prior to that, on February 1, Trump signed an executive order imposing trade tariffs on goods from Canada, China and Mexico. According to him, Canada is responsible for significant amounts of drug smuggling into the US. In response, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the country had an equal, strong and reasonable response to Trump's imposition of duties.
